Good company - yes, I know that's self-praise but I'm trying to show myself in the best light. Funny - okay, it's not a traditional sense of humor but is works for some. Describe Yourself: Slightly paunchy, balding, bespectacled fifty-something (what a catch, huh?) Scot with an enduring curiusity about most things but most particularly people. Opinionated (people must inherit some things from their parents, after all) but simultaneously open to others' ideas. Hey, I didn't say 'straightforward' anywhere! Laughing. Much of life amuses me and not all in a wry way. I delight in finding joyful things and in sharing laughter with others. On Gather, I'm Looking For ...: Interesting people who share some of my enthusiasms. Interests Lately I've been listening to: Mark Knopfler albums - reminiscing I'm currently reading: A mix of history-based novels and science fiction The last movie I watched was: Whichever was the last new on Showtime screened My must-see show is: Almost anything live on stage I'd love to visit: Egypt I'm curious about: Almost everything. C'mon! Haven't you been paying attention? Topping my Wish List is: To be pleasant and stimulating company in a sidewalk cafe somewhere in continental Europe. Favorite Music, Artists, Genres: There is far too much stimulating, well-done and joyful music out there to have a 'favourite'. Using those three adjectives, however, will give you a clue to music for which I don't have much time - rap, gangsta, that particular "You ***** my wife, you stole my truck, you killed my dawg but if you bring the truck back, I'll forgive you" kind of country music. Favorite Books, Writers, Genres: I read a wide selection of books. I enjoy history-based novels, well-written detective and adventure stories and anything that's truly funny. I also enjoy much science-fiction and, to balance all of that out, I'm currently struggling with Livy's A History of Rome., Hey, you work out a theme, if you can! Favorite Movies, Actors, Genres: Many, many 'foreign' films. Most action-adventure movies and good comedies. Almost anything that doesn't involve gore, snot and degradation., Chocolat, Amores Perros, La Vie en Rose, every Indiana Jones movie, Blade Runner., Favourite actors? I'll watch anything with Kevin Spacey in it - ditto for Sigourney Weaver (but that's only to feed my romantic fantasy.) Favorite TV Shows, Actors: Television, in general, I find to be mind-numbing. I watch sitcoms and soccer - mostly soccer. Favorite Places: Ah, too many to list. They include London (for a few days at a time) a farmhouse on the side of a hill in the Luberon Valley in Provence, Seville, Spain, Austin, TX, and anyplace where I can relax and watch people. Interests and Activities: Travel, cooking and eating, other people, international news, goofing off Wish List: To be pleasant and stimulating company and to enjoy the same from others.
